2022 Volkswagen Taos vs Mazda CX-5: more advanced and more spacious
June 16 2021,
The 2022 Volkswagen Taos is smaller on paper than the CX-5, but it actually has more space. And although it is more affordable, it actually has more features and more tech. This may seem surprising at first, but the Taos really has a lot going for it when it comes to how it compares with the CX-5.
Efficency: The CX-5 has a range of efficient engines, but the Taos’ 1.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder is more efficient. Combined, we are talking about ratings of 7.6 and 8.5 liters per 100 kilometers for the Volkswagen model (2WD and 4WD). The CX-5 can do no better than 8.5 and 9.0 liters, respectively.
All-wheel drive: Volkswagen has the advantage here, as its 4Motion all-wheel drive is one of the best in the industry. In other words, few rivals stand a chance when compared with VW’s 4Motion system.
Technology: There’s more tech in the Taos given that it is the latest SUV to arrive on the market. Features like wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a fully digital instrument cluster are just a few examples.
Cargo Space: With an SUV, of course, you want to have as much cargo space as possible. Volkswagen has done its homework with its new Taos, as its 1,868 liters of cargo volume with the second-row seats folded down is more than the 1,687 liters offered by the CX-5.
The Instrument Cluster: More and more, instrument gauges are all about customizable digital display groups. With Taos, you will be able to decide what information will be displayed before your eyes. The CX-5 doesn’t have this level of tech.
In all respects, the new Volkswagen Taos 2022 is shaping up to be a major player in the segment. The competition is already taking notes.
