2024 Volkswagen ID.4 Set to Get Performance Boost This Year

The Volkswagen ID.4, now in its third full year on the North American market, is gearing up for significant upgrades in the 2024 model. One of the main focuses of these enhancements will be on increased power and extended driving range.

Power and Range Upgrades

The 2024 ID.4 equipped with an 82 kWh battery is slated to receive a more potent rear electric motor, similar to the one that will feature in the upcoming ID.7 sedan. For the rear-wheel-drive version, horsepower will jump from the existing 201 to a new level of 282. For the all-wheel-drive variant, the horsepower will see a hike from 295 to around 330. While Volkswagen has teased an extended range, exact numbers will only be disclosed closer to the release date in early 2024. For context, the current model's range stands at either 443 or 410 km depending on whether it's an all-wheel or rear-wheel drive.

As for the entry-level ID.4 that comes with a 63 kWh battery, which has 201 horsepower and can travel up to 336 km on a full charge, details about any potential upgrades remain undisclosed for now.

Interior Enhancements

Alongside performance upgrades, the interior of the 2024 ID.4 will also see notable improvements. All 2024 models will come with a redesigned gear selector and a newly shaped steering wheel. Depending on the version, additional amenities will also be available. A standout feature will be a new Harman Kardon audio system with nine speakers.

What's more, the models equipped with the larger 82 kWh battery will offer a more significant central screen measuring 12.9 inches. This larger display will be complemented by a revised infotainment menu, a more intuitive heating and air conditioning interface, and backlit scrolling bars.

The 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 is clearly aiming to set new benchmarks in the electric SUV segment. With more horsepower, an extended driving range, and a variety of interior improvements, it's obvious that Volkswagen is investing heavily to make its mark on the North American electric vehicle market. Exact specifications and more details are eagerly awaited as the release date approaches early next year.
