Volkswagen ID.7 Is Putting the Swag back into Sedans
March 30 2023,
The world maybe getting almost overrun with electric crossover and SUV concepts these days, but don’t think that the means the traditional sedan is dead yet. For proof of just how much life could be left in that body style, look no further than the Volkswagen ID.7, a sleek sedan with grand touring vibes that made its debut under the neon glow of the Las Vegas Strip at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show.
Styling-wise, the ID.7 has been designed to follow the design language of VW’s other “ID” electric vehicles. That means a smooth, aerodynamic front fascia and roof to help reduce drag an increase range, side air vents to form an “air curtain” to further increase range, to the tune of a claimed 700 kilometres, putting the ID.7 near the top of the EV spectrum in terms of range.
VW says that with the ID.7, they are aiming for top-class technology and quality, which suggests a new level of luxury for the brand.
One of the features that points strongly to this being the case is an all-new intelligent air conditioning system. What this means is that they can automatically switch on – either to cool or heat the vehicle – as soon as the driver approaches with the key in their pocket. It also features what VW is calling “intelligent vents”. They are able to move dynamically to distribute air throughout the cabin as quickly as possible. The vents can even be set to direct air directly to each individual passenger in the car and it can all be controlled by “Hey, Volkswagen” voice controls such as “hey Volkswagen, my hands are cold” to activate the heated steering wheel and direct air toward the driver’s hands.
Other interior niceties include illuminated touch sliders for the stereo’s volume controls, augmented-reality heads-up display and an overall ambiance focusing on being airy and comfortable.
So rejoice, sedan fans! There’s still plenty of life in this old body style yet, if Volkswagen has anything to say about it.
